He was predeceased by: his parents, Lewis B. Strait and Dorothy Imogene Strait (Sappington). He is survived by: his wife Wilma Weeks Strait; his children, James Calvin Strait Jr. (Kathy), Benjamin Claude Strait (Sharon) and Mary Allison Strait-Philbrick (Jim); his stepsons, Mark Eliot Kimbell (Misha) and Richard Kevin Kimbell (Christy); his daughter Heather Marie Kimbell (Anthony Rizzo); his grandchildren, Abby Strait, Cal Strait, Ansley Strait, Katelyn Harris, Kylie Strait, Kirsten Strait, Corbin Strait, Kenadie Strait, Turner Kimbell and Shelby Kimbell; and his siblings, Ethel Williams (Jim), Bill Strait (Nelda) and Charles Strait (Janice). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held on Sunday, November 30th 2025 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Ray Funeral Home (206 Bishop Rd, Cleveland, MS 38732). A celebration of life was held on Sunday, November 30th 2025 from 3:00 PM to 3:45 PM at the same location.

If you wish, the family asks that donations be made to St. Jude instead of flowers, in honor of his tradition.
