He was predeceased by : his parents, Hershell Spires and Hazel Spires Carter; his siblings, Hugh Spires and Joyce Spires Byars; and his nephew Darrell Byars.

He is survived by : his wife Joyce; his children, Doug Spires (Stephanie) of Vicksburg, MS and Michelle White (Jody) of Pearl, MS; his grandchildren, Abby, Sarah Katherine, Belle (Spires) and Richard (Sullivan); and his sister Linda Hill (Lloyd). He is also survived by met more lifelong friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to First Baptist Church of Clinton for the Missionary House Debt Retirement Fund at FBCClinton.org/give.
