He was predeceased by: his former wife Charlotte Hughes; his daughter Sharron Hughes; his parents, W. H. Hughes and Vester Williams Hughes; his grandson Denton Knight; and his son-in-law David Knight.
He is survived by: his wife Rachel Hughes of Laurel; his children, Benny Hughes of Collins, Charles Hughes of Hendersonville, NC and Sherry Hughes Knight of Seminary; his stepchildren, David Dyess of Laurel and Sonya Everett (Douglas) of Laurel; and his grandchildren, Ben Hughes (Morgan) of Petal and Jeanie Knight Sloan (Michael) of Hattiesburg. He is also survived by nieces, nephews and other family members.
Visitation was held on Thursday, July 24th 2025 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Mount Horeb Baptist Church (25 Mt Horeb Rd, Collins, MS 39428). A funeral service was held on Thursday, July 24th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, the family requested donations to be made in his name to Mount Horeb Baptist Church.
