Lela Buckley Obituary

With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of Lela Buckley of Columbia, Mississippi, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on November 28, 2025 at the age of 89. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

She was predeceased by: her parents, Sheldon Lee "Shine" and Leona Mae Williams Fortenberry; and her siblings, Jimmy "Shine" Fortenberry and Shellia Jean Fortenberry (Cody M. Buckley, Sr.). She is survived by: her daughter Laura Ann Broome (Terry) of Columbia; her grandchildren, Leigh Broome Hathorn (Scott) of Columbia and Ryan Broome of Columbia; her great grandchildren, Liza Hathorn of Columbus, Sam Hathorn (Abby Powell) of Columbia, Ike Broome of Columbia, Mix Broome of Columbia and Naomi Broome of Columbia; her nephews, Jamie Fortenberry (Gerri Sue) of Columbia and Jason Fortenberry (Memrie) of Jackson, Mississippi; her great-nieces and great-nephews, Blake Dupuy (Brandi), Braxton Dupuy of Columbia, Mamie Fortenberry and Lela Fortenberry of Jackson, Mississippi; her stepdaughter-in-law Sandy Buckley; her stepgrandchildren, Cory Buckley, Lauren Buckley McCay (Reid) and Michael Buckley; her stepgreat-grandchildren, Maggie Townsend Burge (Payton), J. Buck Townsend, Gavin McCay and Catherine McCay; her family Lela; and her caregivers, Laura, Marissa and Janice Jefferson.
