He was predeceased by: his mother Myra McGee Sims; and his sister Barbara Sims. He is survived by: his wife Carolyn Monroe Sims; his daughter Shelley Tuggle (Jonathan) of Columbus, MS; his granddaughter Haven Tuggle; and his siblings, Jerry Sims (Pam) of Aberdeen, MS and JoAnne Burrage (Greg) of Caledonia, MS. He is also survived by four nieces.
