He was predeceased by: his parents, Willie Mathis and Annie Mae Hodum Mathis; and his siblings, Clebert Mathis (Zillian), JD Mathis (Lola) and Willie Mae Sargent (Alton).
He is survived by: his wife Bonnie Suitor; his daughters, Nena Work (Johnny) and Nancy Harvell (Brandon); and his grandchildren, Alex Work, Nathan Harvell and Natalie Harvell.
In lieu of flowers, family request donations be made in his honor to Shiloh Baptist Church of St. Jude Children's Hospital.
