He was predeceased by: his wife Mary Margaret Smith; his grandson Tristan Sullivan Smith; and his parents, Nelson Smith and Esther Smith. He is survived by: his sons, Robert Nelson Smith (Lori Smith) and Jonathan Sullivan Smith; his grandchildren, Morgan Mabry Smith, Tyler Sullivan Smith (Alexsandra) and Braden Clark Smith; and his sister Grace Gibson (Larry). He is also survived by extended family members and many dear friends.

Visitation will be held on Monday, October 26th 2026 from 9:45 AM to 10:30 AM at the DeKalb Baptist Church (11 Bell St, De Kalb, MS 39328). A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 26th 2026 at 10:30 AM at the same location. A burial will be held on Monday, October 26th 2026 at the Rush Cemetery (199 Rush Cemetery Rd, De Kalb, MS 39328).

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to The Gideons International, an organization close to Robert's heart and one through which he faithfully supported the sharing of God's Word around the world.
