It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Richard Earl Forbes in Grenada, Mississippi, born in Eupora, Mississippi, who passed away on October 4, 2025, at the age of 88, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Labon Timothy Forbes and Lola Ingram Forbes; his daughter Elizabeth Forbes Paschall; and his grandson James Callahan "Cal" Forbes. He is survived by: his wife Bettye Blue Forbes; his sons, James Thomas Forbes (Candy) and Timothy Earl Forbes (Susan); and his granddaughters, Bailey Forbes Johnson (Jarett) and Anna Katie Forbes.

In 1979 he received a faculty award for his contribution to research and teaching.
