Elbert J. Sims, born on August 10, 1940 in Decatur, Mississippi, passed away on October 14, 2026. Elbert leaves behind family members and others who acknowledge this loss. He was predeceased by: his parents, Glover Sims and Eloise Mapp Sims; his wife Lovie Sims; his great great grandchild Eisland; and his siblings, Rachel Sims Malone Blakley, Woodrow Sims, John Henry Sims, Willlie Lee Sims and Wilbert Sims.

He is survived by: his children, Sonja Sims, Edward Sims (Karima), Mark Sims (Deborah) of Gulfport, MS and Eric Sims of New Haven, Connecticut; and his brother Wilbur Sims (Joyce) of Meridian, MS. He is also survived by six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; ten great-great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 24th 2026 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Greater New Light Missionary Baptist Church (14273 Old Hwy 49, Gulfport, MS 39503). A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 24th 2026 from 12:00 PM to 1:15 PM at the same location. A burial will be held on Saturday, October 24th 2026 from 1:45 PM to 2:00 PM at the Gulf Pines Memorial Gardens (19361 28th St, Long Beach, MS 39560).
