He was predeceased by: his parents, Elton Leon Nelson and Mary Evelyn Gillespie Nelson; and his grandparents, Cyrus, Minnie Nelson, Fonzo and Margaret Gillespie.
He is survived by: his wife Paulette Blue Nelson of Houston; his children, Debbie Gibson (Al) of Brandon, Damon Nelson (Tania) of Vardaman and Fandaci Harmon (Andy) of Houston; his grandchildren, Savannah Lenheart, Derek Nelson, Brennon Gibson (McKenna), Kelsey Floyd (Justin), Caitlin Sullivan (Brent), Palmer Harmon (Chelsea), Addison Love (Adam), John Robert Harmon and Lexi Jones (Idarias); and his siblings, David Nelson (Margaret) of Woodland, Jeannie Winter of Vardaman and Kathy Haynes (Greg) of Houlka. He is also survived by 22 great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren.
