He was predeceased by : his wife Brenda Sue Walton; his grandson Zachary John Walton; and his sister Betty Warren. He is survived by : his children, Christianne Walton Jenkins and Paul Thomas Walton, III; his grandchildren, Carl Jenkins, Jared Jenkins, Connor Jenkins (Elsa), Patrick Jenkins, Paul Thomas Walton, IV and Victoria Grace Orcutt (Stephen); and his sister Barbara Evanson.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in his honor to the Wounded Warrior Project.
