With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of Donald Wayne Oakes of Indianola, Mississippi, born in Moorhead, Mississippi, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on May 4, 2025 at the age of 80. He was predeceased by: his parents, Luther Bryan Oakes and Daisy Cook Oakes; and his siblings, Maxine Oakes, Maggie Louise Oakes, Juanita Oakes Whatley, Martha Oakes Mooney and Luther B. Oakes, Jr..

He is survived by: his wife Sherry Davis Oakes of Indianola; his children, Tracy Oakes Lester (Hubert) of Inverness and Kevin Oakes of Indianola; his siblings, James W. Oakes (Donna) of Grand Bay, Alabama and Geneva Bragg of Panama City, Florida; his grandchildren, Brittany Jordan (Michael), Ryan Lester (Jenna), Baylee Oakes, Wesley Lester, Millie Oakes and Khloe Oakes; and his great grandchildren, Jax Lester, Dawson Lester, Taylor Jordan and Steely Jordan. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude or Eastwood Baptist Church.
