He was predeceased by: his father David Abernathy; his granddaughter Rebecca "Becky" Porter; and his son-in-law Johnny Bishop. He is survived by: his children, Joe Abernathy (Spring), David Abernathy and Susan Bishop; his brothers, Cecil, Jimbo and Steve Abernathy; and the mother of his children Sarah Abernathy. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
