He was predeceased by: his parents, James E. McCoy, Sr. and Charlie Mae Johnson; his stepmother O. D. McCoy; his granddaughter Khanesiera Dabryanna McCoy; and his cousin Albert Johnson.

He is survived by: his wife Mary Ann McCoy; his children, Patrick Coleman (Katrina), Chiquita Pendleton (Calvin), Aliska Noel (Charlie), Erica McCoy (Tyronnea) and Cheryl Brown (Nathan); his brother Willie McCoy; and his nephews, Marcus McCoy and Eric McCoy. He is also survived by seventeen grandchildren; eight great grandchildren.
