He was predeceased by: his parents, Warren Smith and Janie Eunie May Smith; his daughter Effie Jane Sumrall; his stepson Tony Overstreet; and his siblings, Emmitt Smith, David Smith, Willie Smith, George Smith, Ethel Mae Harrison and Alene Cherry.
He is survived by: his wife Mary Louise Smith of Laurel, MS; his children, George Thomas Smith (Laura Denise) of Seminary, MS and Gladys May Dearmond of Rose Hill, MS; his stepson Dwayne Overstreet (Kathryn) of Laurel, MS; his granddaughter Darla N. Overstreet of Gulfport, MS; and his sisters, Marie Walters of Waynesboro, MS, Irene Cherry of Waynesboro, MS and Olean Smith of Waynesboro, MS. He is also survived by grandchildren and great grandchildren.
