He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Tilson and Bertha Edmondson Tilson. He is survived by: his children, Patricia Singleton, Cathleen Fields and James Fields; and his brother Robert Tilson. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
