He was predeceased by: his parents, James Clifton (Kitty) and Bonnie Fulton Cumberland; his brother Don; his sister-in-law Betty Cumberland; and his father-in-law Olyn Coward.

He is survived by: his wife Dianne Coward Cumberland; his grandchildren, Kayse Jennings, Kelly Higginbotham (Rocky), Levi Cumberland, John Clifton Pope (Kelli), Kalie Jennings, Caitlin Dickerson (Marisa), Jacob Dickerson, Joseph Dickerson, Meagan Higginbotham and Jordan Higginbotham (Layla); his great grandchild Lucie Sharp; his brother Ray Cumberland (Shirley); his mother-in-law Bettye Jo Coward; and his siblings-in-law, Nell Whitehead and Dell Coward (Debra). He is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and co-workers.
