He was predeceased by: his parents, Jesse Hathorn and Cammie Hathorn (Hillman); his daughters, Carol Hinton and Shelia Gafford; and his sister Sherry Hendrix.

He is survived by: his children, Shelby Gafford, Wayne Hathorn (Giesla) and Paul Gafford (Cindy); and his brothers, Prather Hathorn (Frances) and Robin Hathorn (Sue). He is also survived by grandchildren and great grandchildren.
