David touched countless lives with warmth and kindness, leaving behind cherished memories that will forever echo in hearts. He was predeceased by: his wife Dee Fisher Self. He is survived by: his parents, Donna Self, and Doug Self, Sr.; his sons, John Self (Callie) and Will Self; his brothers, Doug Self, Jr. and Chris Self; and his nieces, Elizabeth Lingle (Ethan) and Maddie Self. He is also survived by aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and many dear friends.

There will be a private, family-only graveside service at West Historical Cemetery in West, MS. n lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorials be made to either of two organizations near to them , The Center for Hope and Healing at Broadmoor and the Mississippi Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association.
