He was predeceased by: his parents, Rosie Bell Carr Payton and Curtis Payton; his parents-in-law, Leslie Bullock and Emma Bullock; his stepmother-in-law Jimmie Bullock; his brother Edison Lewel Payton; his son-in-law Joe Crump; and his brothers-in-law, Booker T. McKelphin and Ellis Jenkins.
He is survived by: his children, Charles E. Payton of McComb, MS, Ora K. Smith of Tylertown, MS, Dorothy L. Crump, Emogene Billups (Tommy) of Jackson, MS and Janet Jenkins (Floyd) of Ruth, MS; his wife Norma Ruth; his sons, Jermaine Jenkins of Gulfport, MS and Kelvin Jenkins of Jayess, MS; his siblings, Edna McKelphin of Chicago, IL and Matthew Payton (Rosie) of Chicago, IL; and his sisters-in-law, Gwendolyn Payton of Chicago, IL and Lurene Matthews of Tylertown, MS. He is also survived by grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchild; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
