He was predeceased by: his parents, Ernie Dunaway and Gertrude Greer Dunaway; his wife Opal Young Dunaway; his brothers, J. W. Dunaway, Jack Dunaway, Cleavey Dunaway and L. C. Dunaway; and his stepdaughter Opal Jean Myers.
He is survived by: his daughters, Bonita Dunaway of McComb, MS and Lawanda Dunaway of McComb, MS; his brother R. B. "Billy" Dunaway of McComb; and his grandchildren, Jessica Whittington (Bartley), Mitchell Byrd, Jeremy Newman (Loretta), Kayla Whatley (Grant) and William Byrd (Kayla). He is also survived by eight great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephew and other family and friends.
