He is survived by : his wife Kimberly Moak Root; his daughter Addison Elizabeth Root; his parents, Richard Root (Joann Cook Root) and Joann Root; his brother Steve Root; his brother-in-law Chris Moak; and his close friend David Kavanay. He is also survived by niece, two nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Centenary United Methodist Church.

“Hello, Matthew Henagan here. I just heard about the passing of Matthew Root, I’m very sorry what happened. I too had someone that I know kill themselves, my first cousin. I know this cannot be easy for y’all and I just want to say I too will shoulder some of this incredible pain that y’all have to endure. It will never get easy but let’s never forget Matt Root and let’s reach out to those who also might be in need. The struggle is real but we shouldn’t have to go through it alone. RIP buddy.”
