He was predeceased by: his parents, David Newell and Helen Newell; his brother Robert "Bob" Newell; and his sister-in-law Pam Kizziah. He is survived by: his wife Rita Newell; his children, Dr. Daniel Newell (Amy) and Christy Pritchard (Anthony); his grandchildren, Gracie Newell Terry (Mason), Libby Newell, Zane Pritchard (Lauren Pickett), Wes Pritchard and Anna Kate Pritchard; his sister Dianne Manning (Ed); and his siblings-in-law, Katherine Newell, Mary Bramblett (Steve) and Ken Kizziah. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family.

In 2020, he was inducted into the Mississippi Rodeo Hall of Fame in recognition of a lifetime of extraordinary contributions to the sport of rodeo in Mississippi.

Though those times have passed, the Friendship never ended. Our prayers for Rita, Christy and Anthony, Daniel and Amy and their Families. Prayers for his precious Grandchildren who gave them so much joy and love. He was so proud and loved them all. Love y’all , Ray and Johnnie Jenkins”
