He was predeceased by: his parents, John Perry Patton II and Lillian Ralph Patton; his former wife Joyce Jeter Patton; and his children, John Perry Patton IV (Martha) of Arvada, Joel David Patton (Lora) of Madison and Penelope Patton McClelland (Craig) of Rock Hill.
He is survived by: his wife Peggy Mosley Patton; his grandchildren, Anna Catherine Patton of Annapolis, Dr. Samuel Patton of Jackson, Erin Patton of Durham, Dr. Patton McClelland (Abby) of San Antonio, Megan McClelland and Luke McClelland of Chicago; and his brother Malcolm Patton (Barbara) of Gallatin, Tennessee..
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 28th 2025 from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM at the Beech Cumberland Presbyterian Church (3216 Long Hollow Pike, Hendersonville, TN 37075). A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, October 28th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Historic Beech Cemetery.
Following his retirement from the military, John transitioned to civilian life, serving for 23 years as a radiologist at Rush Foundation Hospital in Meridian, Mississippi.
