He was predeceased by: his parents, Oscar Smith and Erma Langston Smith; his siblings, Mary Nell Millwood (Ed), Barbara Cowan, Joe Dan Smith and Charles; and his brother-in-law Robert Earl McKinney.
He is survived by: his wife Dr. Jean Chittom Smith; his stepson Leonard Bedna Schaefer, III (Melissa Gordon Schaefer); his sisters, Sarah Smith of Tupelo and Nancy McGee (Gene) of Murfreesboro; his siblings-in-law, Harry Cowan of Baldwyn and Janice Chittom McKinney of Cottondale, Alabama; and his caregiver Donna McCarter of New Albany.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 4th 2025 at 1:00 PM and at 2:00 PM at the Oak Grove Cemetery (751 Oak Grove Rd, Mantachie, MS 38855). The military honors will be held on Saturday, October 4th 2025 at 3:00 PM at the same location. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 4th 2025 at the same location.
