He was predeceased by: his parents, Oscar Smith and Erma Langston Smith; his siblings, Mary Nell Millwood (Ed), Barbara Cowan, Joe Dan Smith and Charles; and his brother-in-law Robert Earl McKinney.
He is survived by: his wife Dr. Jean Chittom Smith; his stepson Leonard Bedna Schaefer, III (Melissa Gordon Schaefer); his sisters, Sarah Smith of Tupelo and Nancy McGee (Gene) of Murfreesboro; his siblings-in-law, Harry Cowan of Baldwyn and Janice Chittom McKinney of Cottondale, Alabama; his caregiver Donna McCarter of New Albany; his close friends, David Bailey, Kenny King and Matthew Wiginton; and his nephews, Joe Dean, Jeffery McGee and Terry McGee.
