He was predeceased by: his father Oscar Richard Smith Sr.; and his brother Andrew James Smith. He is survived by: his wife Carolyn Faye Smith; his children, Richard O. Smith, Bernard S. Kirkland, Marius M. Kirkland, Ladarius Kirkland, Beckey Smith and Annise Jackson Murithi; his mother Georgia McDonald (Curtis); his siblings, Billy Pittman, Louis Smith (Patricia), Joseph (Daphne) and Charlene Ratliff (Danny); his grandchildren, Skye Smith and Saint Smith; and his siblings-in-law, Helen Nathan (Issac), Violee Hubbard, Jackie Anderson, Bridgett Jackson, Bonnie Otis (Joseph), Earlean Burney and Jack E. Anderson Jr.. He is also survived by many other relatives and friends.
