He was predeceased by: his fathers, Melvin Gentry and Elmer Lee Harvey Gentry; his wife Geneva Harvey Gentry; his sons, Robert Darryle Gentry and Harold Luther Gentry; his siblings, Garland Gentry, Georgia Knight and Fannie May Ishee; and his grandsons, Dusty Gentry, Nathan Chapman and Adam Chapman.
He is survived by: his children, James Carroll Gentry of Mount Olive and Melinda Kay Chapman of Mount Olive; and his brother John Wayne Ashley of Mount Olive. He is also survived by six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 24th 2026 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the New Liberty Landmark Missionary Baptist Church (356 Scr 152, Mt Olive, MS 39119). A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 24th 2026 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
