We announce the death of Devonte Lavarius McGowan (Natchez, Mississippi), who passed away on August 25, 2026, at the age of 33. Devonte will be remembered by family members, friends, and others whose lives were connected in meaningful ways. Devonte’s absence will be deeply felt by those who valued his companionship.
He was predeceased by: his grandparents, Rosie Lee McGowan, Margarete Letcher and Johnnie E. Mazique; and his brother Timothy Letcher. He is survived by: his parents, Judith Marie McGowan and Willie James Mazique; and his siblings, Alonzo McGowan, Kirya Duncan (Yolanda), Errica Johnson (Ray), Katrina Yearby and Sylvia Berry (Stephen). He is also survived by 18 nieces and nephews; 14 great-nieces and great-nephews; and a host of aunts, uncles, extended family members, and friends.
Visitation was held on Friday, September 4th 2026 from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the West Gate Funeral Home (409 M. L. K. Jr Rd, Natchez, MS 39120). A funeral service was held on Saturday, September 5th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Pilgrim Missionay Baptist Church (117 Pilgrim Blvd, Natchez, MS 39120). A burial was held on Saturday, September 5th 2026 at the Sunset View Memorial Park Cemetery (1617 M. L. K. Jr Rd, Natchez, MS 39120).
