She was predeceased by: her parents, L. M. (LaDelle Ingram Dickson) and Southern; her husband Charles Friend; and her brothers, Joe Dickson and Pete Dickson.

She is survived by: her son Jack Lancaster; her grandchildren, Lara Brown and Eric Lancaster; and her great grandchildren, Kenna Brown, Peyton Brown, Leah Lancaster, Vince Lancaster and Jackson Lancaster.

“I was fortunate to know Mildred for years in Norfolk. Twice a year she would bake a rum cake for me: Christmas and birthday. In exchange, I would drive her to appointments if it was raining and handle homeowner maintenance tasks. She was a retired RN and had great stories to tell about serving as a flight nurse for critically ill patients. Mildred baked goodies for civic league refreshments and everyone admired her baking ability and wanted her recipes. I'll miss her. -John Heyward, Norfolk, VA”
