With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of Bettye Thornton of New Albany, Mississippi, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on July 21, 2025 at the age of 90. She was predeceased by: her parents, Charles Powell and Tressie Powell; her husband James L. Thornton; and her daughters, Mary Gay Brooks (Tony), Lillian Henry (Paul) and Beth Matthews.
She is survived by: her daughter Tamsie West (Curtis) of New Albany; her grandchildren, Crystal Roaton Johnson (Bubba), Jason West (Zoe), Dan West, Noah Brooks, Jana Brooks, Eric Henry (Whitney), Jami Henry, Mike Matthews, Josh Matthews, Justin Kidd (Nikki) and Amber Matthews; and her caregivers, Pam Nichols, Linda Nobles and Leigh Dunlap. She is also survived by numerous great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 24th 2025 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Friday, July 25th 2025 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the United Funeral Service, Inc. (700 MS-15, New Albany, MS 38652). A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 25th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
