He was predeceased by: his parents, Col. Norman J. Eckert and Mildred Eckert; and his brothers, Col. Edward N. Eckert and Col. William N. Eckert. He is survived by: his wife Elizabeth Hymel (Liz); his children, Kay Smith (Craig), Ann Bruffey (Michael), Marie Williams (Michael), Richard A. Eckert Jr. (Lori), Michael P. Eckert (Lynne) and Steven N. Eckert (Caron); his grandchildren, Carson Kadi (Kaeli), Catherine Smith, Mark Eckert, Elise Eckert, Julia Bruffey, Emma Bruffey, Jacob Bruffey (Caroline), Olivia Williams, Andrew Williams, Daniel Williams, Claire Williams, Christopher Dekle and Caroline Dekle; and his great grandchild Camille Bruffey.
Visitation was held on Saturday, July 12th 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Calendar Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Cathedral (870 Howard Ave, Biloxi, MS 39530). A Mass of Christian burial was held on Saturday, July 12th 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Biloxi National Cemetery (870 Howard Ave, Biloxi, MS 39530). A burial was held on Monday, July 14th 2025 from 11:00 AM to 11:15 AM at the Calendar Biloxi National Cemetery (400 Veterans Ave, Biloxi, MS 39531).
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be designated to one of the following: St. Alphonsus Elementary School Scholarship Fund, Biloxi SVDP Pharmacy, or the Diocese of Biloxi Seminarian Trust Fund.
