He was predeceased by : his parents, Frank Ray and Louise Ray; and his brother Richard Ray. He is survived by : his wife Annette Murphy Ray; his children, Barry Ray (Karen) and Shelly Webster (Mickey Roland); his grandchildren, Brandon Ray (Leah), Hailey McConnell (Garret), Harlie Barker (Jacob), Amanda Denton (Rob), Kenton Webster (Estefania) and Lindsey Ferrell (John); his sisters, Mary Lou Eames (Ray) and Lynn Glover (Jim); and his uncle Perry Lane. He is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks memorials be made in his honor to Church of Christ Disaster Relief in Nashville, TN.
