He was predeceased by: his parents, Gilbert Melton and Gertrude Conwill; his stepfather E. C. Conwill; and his siblings, Patricia Burton and David Melton.

He is survived by: his stepson James VanEaton (Sharon); and his brother Steve Melton (Elaine).
