Tom Merman wrote a sympathy message

“My sincerest condolences to Bill’s immediate family. I first met (Billy) when I pledged the PKT fraternity at Ole Miss where he was already a member. Coming from a northern state during that time was somewhat of a culture shock anyway. I remember his hospitable and gentlemanly nature which apparently was his southern upbringing. Unfortunately, our paths never crossed after our departures from Ole Miss, but if there is an afterlife, perhaps we’ll meet as Brothers again. Rest peacefully.”
