We announce the death of Betty Bowen (Oxford, Mississippi), who passed away on September 14, 2026, at the age of 81. She was predeceased by: her son Johnny Bowen; her parents, Sam Clayton and Jettie Clayton (Oliver); and her siblings, Bernice Morrow, Ella Clayton, Henry James Clayton and George Clayton.
She is survived by: her sister Carrie Stevens (Charles) of Oxford, MS; her sister-in-law Juliet Clayton of Columbus, OH; her nieces and nephews, Cartena Starks (Dwayne) of Olive Branch, MS, Bonnie Ray Owens of New Albany, MS, Michelle Clayton of Columbus, OH, Doyle Morrow (Sandra) of Oxford, MS, James Delbridge (Kena) of Oxford, MS, Kerry Delbridge of Oxford, MS, Charles Stevens, Jr. of Oxford, MS and Chris Johns of Pensacola, FL; and her great-nieces and great-nephews, Kenyetta Thompson of Oxford, MS, Ronda Clayton-Pomerlee (Maurice) of Oxford, MS, Kennether Carruthers of Oxford, MS, Andren Clayton of Oxford, MS, Latina Clayton of Oxford, MS, Kinshna M. Williams of Oxford, MS, Darnisha Morrow of Oxford, MS, Miracle Townsend (Jermaine) of Oxford, MS, Ze'kyia Burt of Oxford, MS, Keira Delbridge of Oxford, MS, Kiyana Thompson of Oxford, MS, Dylan Starks, Roland Carruthers and Kerry Delbridge, Jr.. She is also survived by 14 great great nephews and seven great great nieces; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held on Friday, September 25th 2026 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the L. Hodges Funeral Service (721 Damascus Rd, Oxford, MS 38655). A funeral service was held on Saturday, September 26th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Philadelphia M. B. Church (36 Co Rd 2006, Oxford, MS 38655). A burial was held on Saturday, September 26th 2026 at the same location.
