He was predeceased by: his parents, Priscilla Houston and John Mitchell Joiner; his wife Hattie Mae Houston; his son Earl Williams; his stepchildren, Arthur Lee Woods and Patricia Ann Brown; and his siblings, Roberta Joiner Ivy, Liggins Joiner, Clarence Joiner and John Henry Joiner.
He is survived by: his children, Alice Houston of Oxford, MS, Tabitha Houston of Oxford, MS, Rachel Houston of Oxford, MS, Kenneth Houston (Vernita) of Bartlett, TN, Richard Houston of Riverdale, GA., Chester Houston (Yolanda) of Byram, MS and James Houston, Jr. of Fort Walton Beach, FL; and his brother David Joiner of Oxford, MS. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
