He was predeceased by: his parents, Abb Smith and Clara Faust Smith; and his brother Bill Smith. He is survived by: his wife Paula DePriest Smith of Oxford; his children, Tiffany Dianne Barrett (Zack) of Oxford, Ashley Nicole Holcomb (Gary) of Oxford and Tyler Smith (Hillary) of Oxford; his grandsons, Walker of Oxford, Finnley Barrett of Oxford and Will Holcomb of Oxford; and his siblings, Tracy Miller (Mitch) of Independence, MS and Jeff Smith (Angie) of Oxford. He is also survived by nieces, nephews.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 4th 2026 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Yellow Leaf Baptist Church (50 Co Rd 435, Oxford, MS 38655). A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 5th 2026 at 12:00 PM at the same location. A graveside service will be held on Monday, October 5th 2026 at the Yellow Leaf Cemetery (50 Co Rd 435, Oxford, MS 38655).

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations or memorials to be made, in honor of Richard, to the Yellow Leaf Baptist Church building fund (50 CR 435, Oxford, MS, 38655).
