He was predeceased by: his parents, E. J. Murray, and Verna Lee McLeod Murray, Jr.; his brothers, Richard Lee Murray and Edward James "Jimmy" Murray, III; his nephew Pat Hoag; and his parents-in-law, Gary Schley and Norma Sue Bodden Byrd.

He is survived by: his wife Lenore Byrd Murray; his children, Richard Schley Murray (Maria) and Griffin Allen Murray (Haleigh Hawkins); his granddaughters, Lainey Kaye Murray and Norah Mae Rose Murray; his sisters, Jo Ann Hoag (Jerry) and Barbara Illanne (Robert); and his sisters-in-law, Iris Murray, Brenda Long (Michael), Sue Ellen Moore (Kenny) and Laura Cooley (Trevor). He is also survived by nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation was held on Saturday, November 1st 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 PM at the St. Johns Episcopal Church (3507 Pine St, Pascagoula, MS 39567). A funeral service was held on Saturday, November 1st 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the same location.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society or St. John's Episcopal Parrish Outreach.
