He was predeceased by: his parents, Roy Townsend and Verna Mae Shock; his siblings, Alvin Townsend, William Edward Townsend, Pauline Reid, Macie Jeanette Marshall, Patricia Faye Coker and Wilma Jean Popwell; his grandsons, Nic Townsend and Joey Rhodes; and his close friend Larry Walker.

He is survived by: his wife Nancy Townsend; his sons, Scott Townsend (Lynn), Mike Townsend (Sheriee) and Ricky Townsend; and his brothers, Robert Townsend (Karen) and Wayne Townsend. He is also survived by 10 great-great-grandchildren, 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren.
