She was predeceased by: her parents, George Ausbin Gillis and Anna Parker Gillis of Missouri; her husband James Allen Smith; her son George Clifford Chestnut, Jr.; her grandson John McGrath; and her sisters, Viola Winnie Taylor and Dorothy Jewell Green.
She is survived by: her children, Renee Michelle Serpas (Kent) and LaDon Smith (Lesley); her brother Lambert Gillis; and her grandchildren, Hailey Culbreath, Hannah Culbreath, Andrew Smith, Lavery Smith, Riley Serpas and Stratton Serpas.
Visitation was held on Thursday, September 10th 2026 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the McDonald Funeral Home (401 W Canal St, Picayune, MS 39466). A funeral service was held on Thursday, September 10th 2026 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the McDonald Funeral Home Chapel (401 W Canal St, Picayune, MS 39466). A graveside service was held on Thursday, September 10th 2026 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Flat Top Cemetery.
