He was predeceased by: his parents, Ezra Andrew Smith and Charline Leora Loper Smith; and his son Ellis Otis Bennett, Jr.. He is survived by: his wife Annie Merle Griffith Smith; his children, Alissa Smith, Susan Brown (Shane), Theresa Pryne, Glenn David Smith, Jr. and William Ellis Bennett; and his siblings, Nina Guthrie (Gene), Deena Branum (John), Mark Smith (Debbie) and Neal Smith (Sherry). He is also survived by his 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Monday, November 2nd 2026 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM and on Tuesday, November 3rd 2026 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 3rd 2026 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Salem Landmark Missionary Baptist Church (26006 Hwy 43 S, Picayune, MS 39466). A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, November 3rd 2026 from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Gipson Cemetery West Union.
