He was predeceased by: his parents, James R. Ellis Sr. and Ruth Williams Ellis; his sister Virginia; his niece Angie Vanlandingham; his nephew Mark Plunkett; and his brothers-in-law, Thomas Bobo and Donald Stegall.
He is survived by: his wife Carolyn Sue Roye Ellis; his children, Melissa Ellis Edwards (Bruce) and Greg Ellis (Lisa); his granddaughters, Mallory Ellis and Courtney Ellis Bethune (Luke); his great grandchildren, Makinsley, Ryleigh James, Brooks and Wrenley; his siblings, Jean Bobo, Pat Stegall (Ronald), Jo Stegall, Andy Ellis (Barbara), Judy Jennings (Dean) and Dale Robinson (Walter); and his close friends, Leith and Linda Roye. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
