He was predeceased by: his parents, Jimmie Cruse and Jean Peden Cruse; and his brother Sidney Cruse. He is survived by: his wife Desha Bennett; his brother Sammy; his sister-in-law Dian Cruse; his sister Mary Catherine; his brother-in-law Doug Gaydon; his niece Banji Taylor; his nephews, John Cruse, Denver and Sawyer Gaydon; and his caregivers, Kathy Pipkin, Ruby Ruff and Keona Brown.
