He is survived by: his wife Nina Marie Thornton; his children, Sandra Jean Thornton of Florence, Karen Marie Williams (Scott) of Florence, Tommy Gene Thornton, Jr. (Constanza) of Alpharetta, GA and Patrick Andrew Thornton (Jessica) of Richland; his siblings, Tressie Lee McGraw of Brandon, Tina Alene Brister of Florence, Robert Leon Thornton (Mary) of Brandon, Chester Raymond Thornton (Johnnie) of Florence, Larry Mitchell Thornton of Richland and William Dexter Thornton of Florence; his grandchildren, Meagan Alexandra Keys, Chelsea Lynn Rushing (Joseph), Zachary Alexander Keys (Laura), David Grayson Williams, Camila Marie Thornton, Tommy Gene Thornton III, Lucia Isabel Thornton, Alyssa Nicole Thornton and Gabriel Nicholas Thornton; and his great grandchildren, Aubrey Clyde Phillips III and Ava Katherine Rushing. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
