He was predeceased by: his wife Karen Annette Cooley; his parents, Calvin Reed Cooley, Sr. and Della Lee Cooley; and his siblings, Mae Maxwell, Marcia Dubose and Richard Cooley.
He is survived by: his daughters, Melissa Whisenant, Linda Thornton (Joey), Lisa Thornton (Richard Hudson), Regina Griffith (Wayne) and Kattie Thornton (Travis); his siblings, Calvin Reed Cooley, Jr. and Darlene Cooley; and his grandsons, J. J. Thornton, Billy Thornton, Steven Bryant, Jacob Mapp, Jason Harris, Jr., Dustin Hayes, John Strickland and Gage Hudson. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Friday, May 30th 2025 from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM at the Moore Hattiesburg Chapel. A graveside service was held on Friday, May 30th 2025 at 11:30 AM at the Trueway Landmark Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery (515 Iowa St, Wiggins, MS 39577).
