He was predeceased by: his former wife Joyce Knipple; his son Timothy; his mother W. H. Knipple; and his brothers, Edward, Sydney, Kenneth and Harold.

He is survived by: his wife Mamie Ernestine Knipple; his son Brian Knipple of Chesapeake, VA; and his grandchildren, Matthew, Tamra, Christopher and Devon. He is also survived by six great grandchildren.

The family requests donations to the American Diabetes Society in lieu of flowers.
