He was predeceased by: his parents, Lofton G. Scoggins and Jo Della Heflin Scoggins; his wife Euna Pearl Scoggins; his children, Patricia Ann Fulgham and Joseph Kent Smith, Jr.; and his siblings, Sarah Cotton, Myrtle Lemons, Maggie Ollie Benson, Gertie Lemons, Robert and Charlie Scoggins.
He is survived by: his children, Mary Jo Winston (Kenny) of Starkville, MS and Gary Scoggins (Beth) of Macon, MS; and his sister Dell Franklin. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
