He was predeceased by: his parents, Leroy Hartness and Earline Malone Hartness; and his sisters, Mae Horne, Estelle McLaurin and Faye Powell.
He is survived by: his wife Virginia Phillips Hartness; his children, Laura Hartness Smith (Chad) and Phillip Lee Hartness (Karen); his sister Kay Emmons (Larry); and his grandchildren, Cole Smith, Brayden Smith, AJ Hartness, Kaylee Hartness and Wynne Hartness.
