He was predeceased by: his parents, Alice Hitt Chappell and Charles D. Chappell. He is survived by: his wife Martha Bell Chappell; his siblings, Fred Chappell (Sue), Joyce Vaughn and June Patrick (Terry); his children, Susan Akin (Michael), Byron Culpepper (Kristi) and Caron Byrd (Michael); and his grandchildren, Avy Akin, Katy Akin, Alex Akin, Lindsay Culpepper, Lexi Culpepper, Matthew Byrd and Owen Byrd. He is also survived by several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Visitation was held on Thursday, July 10th 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Lowndes Funeral Home Chapel (1131 Lehmberg Rd, Columbus, MS 39702). A funeral service was held on Thursday, July 10th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Watch Video Lowndes Funeral Home Chapel (1131 Lehmberg Rd, Columbus, MS 39702).
Memorials may be made to the Lowndes County District 1 Fire Department or Fairview Baptist Church.
