It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Gene Marsalis of Summit, Mississippi, born in Ponchatoula, Louisiana, who passed away on July 1, 2025, at the age of 73, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, John Harmon Marsalis and Mary Kirby Marsalis; his parents-in-law, Paul Dykes, Sr. and Elaine Campbell Dykes; and his grandson Arrington Wilson.
He is survived by: his wife Rebecca Dykes Marsalis (Becky); his children, Micki Jo Robertson (Brian) of Petal, MS, Sam Marsalis (Mattie) of Summit, MS and Jake Marsalis of Summit, MS.; his grandchildren, Joli Robertson, Ty Marsalis, Tripp Marsalis, Ardynn Wilson, Brayden Marsalis and Brantley Marsalis; his siblings, Martin Hayden (Eva) of Brandon, MS, Martha Roberts of Summit, MS, Marvel Kyzar (Garry) of Marion, AR, Brenda Marsalis of Summit, MS and Ann Smith (Ronnie) of Marion, AR.; and his siblings-in-law, Paul Dykes, Jr. (Winona) and Madge Dykes Johnston (Kevin). He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews.
